Races we are tracking

Governor

The biggest question is Gov. Wes Moore's margin of victory, and the size of the mandate he carries moving forward.

Congressional Redistricting Ballot Initiative

A statewide ballot question on congressional redistricting that could reshape Maryland's House map for the rest of the decade.

Baltimore City

Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners (2 seats)

This nonpartisan general election features four candidates vying for two open seats on the city's school board. School board races have drawn increased community engagement around pandemic recovery, curriculum changes, and district budgeting.

Baltimore County

Board of Education, District 3

Incumbent Maggie Litz Domanowski, who won this seat by 419 votes in 2022, faces Kelli McClelland. The race has drawn statewide attention to Islamophobia after Domanowski endorsed an anti-Muslim social media post invoking Sharia law; following complaints from CAIR, the Shia Muslim Foundation, and the Maryland Legislative Muslim Caucus, she apologized and visited the Islamic Society of Baltimore.

County Council, 9th District

Democrat Arkia Wade, who won a close primary, faces Republican Tim Fazenbaker and unaffiliated candidate Donna Eve Radtke Sekora for the seat representing Dundalk, Edgemere, and Essex. Fazenbaker, a former liquor store owner making his second run at the council after earlier campaigns for state delegate and Congress, arrives in the general election censured by his own party: on June 8 the Republican Central Committee voted 24 to 0 to rebuke him over a series of Facebook posts, east side residents have accused him of harassment in WYPR's reporting, and in December he called council members “sissies” for considering a pro-immigration bill. Asked about the censure, he said, “I don't really care.”

Sekora, a 70-year-old Dundalk fixture who owns and runs Donna's Tavern and challenged Todd Crandell in the 2022 Republican primary, is running unaffiliated this year, telling The Baltimore Banner that both parties practice my-way-or-the-highway politics and that Dundalk, Edgemere, and Essex have always been left behind. The contest turns on neighborhood concerns, infrastructure, and community growth, and the Crescent's read is that Sekora's independent bid pulls hardest from Fazenbaker's base, opening a path for Wade to win the seat with a plurality.

Howard County

County Council, District 5

The only highly competitive, head-to-head partisan race left for the County Council: Democrat Cat Carter, who advanced from the primary, faces Republican Ryan P. O'Connor.
